Border Force strike at Heathrow Airport suspended

The strike planned by Border Force staff at Heathrow Airport has been suspended. Members of the Public and Commercial Services union (PCS) were set to strike for four days starting 11 April due to concerns over changes in shift patterns.

PCS general secretary Fran Heathcote emphasized that while the strike has been called off, the underlying dispute remains unresolved. She indicated that the suspension is contingent on the Home Office demonstrating a genuine effort to address the union's concerns. The union had warned that the shift changes could lead to job losses and had previously expressed dissatisfaction with the handling of the situation.

The Home Office had prepared "robust plans" to minimize disruptions during the strike. Heathcote has stated that if the Home Office does not engage meaningfully with the union's grievances, strikes could be resumed and potentially escalated.
