Cancer doctors and family with dog among Brazil plane crash dead

As investigations continue into the tragic plane crash in São Paulo, Brazil, that claimed 62 lives, more details have emerged about the victims. Among those who perished were two cancer doctors, a three-year-old child, a lawyer who specialized in airline lawsuits, and a Venezuelan family traveling with their dog.

The plane, a twin-engine turboprop operated by Voepass, was en route from Cascavel in Paraná to Guarulhos Airport in São Paulo city when it crashed in the town of Vinhedo on Friday. Despite crashing in a residential area, only one home was damaged, and no one on the ground was injured.

Among the victims were doctors Mariana Belim and Ariane Risso from the Uopeccan Cancer Hospital in Cascavel. They were part of a group of eight doctors heading to a medical conference. The youngest victim was three-year-old Liz Ibba dos Santos, who was traveling with her father, Rafael Fernando dos Santos.

The crash also claimed the lives of a Venezuelan family, including Josgleidys Gonzalez, her mother Maria Gladys Parra Holguin, and her young son Joslan Perez. The family had moved to Brazil to escape economic hardship in Venezuela but were returning to their homeland to sort out Joslan's documentation. They had planned to continue to Colombia, where they hoped to start a new life. The family's dog, Luna, also perished in the crash, having boarded the plane with them because they did not want to be separated from their pet.

Another victim, Laiana Vasatta, was a lawyer who worked as a lay judge at the Court of Justice of Paraná and represented clients in lawsuits against airlines. She was known for offering consumer guidance through social media videos.

All 62 bodies have been recovered and transported to a police morgue in São Paulo for identification. The cause of the crash remains unknown, but the Brazilian Air Force has begun analyzing the flight recorders, with a preliminary report expected in 30 days. This incident marks Brazil's worst aviation disaster since 2007, when a TAM Express plane crash at São Paulo's Congonhas Airport killed 199 people.
