India refuse to step in to host Women's T20 World Cup
India's Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has declined the opportunity to host the Women's T20 World Cup scheduled for October if it needs to be relocated from Bangladesh. BCCI secretary Jay Shah stated that India is not prepared to step in as a host, citing concerns about the ongoing monsoon season and the fact that India is already slated to host the Women's ODI World Cup next year. The situation in Bangladesh has become unstable following the resignation and fleeing of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina amid violent anti-government protests. These protests, which began over job quota issues, resulted in over 400 deaths. The International Cricket Council (ICC) is actively monitoring the situation and is collaborating with the Bangladesh Cricket Board and security experts to evaluate the feasibility of holding the tournament in Bangladesh. The Women's T20 World Cup, featuring 10 teams including England and Scotland, is currently planned to take place from 3-20 October in Dhaka and Sylhet.Should the situation in Bangladesh not stabilize, Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates are being considered as potential alternative hosts for the tournament.
