**Manchin Applauds White House Deal to Lower Prices for 10 Common Medicare Drugs**

The Biden administration announced Thursday that it has reached an agreement with pharmaceutical companies to reduce prices for the 10 costliest and most frequently dispensed prescription drugs under Medicare.

U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV) praised the move, highlighting that West Virginia has the nation’s second-highest rate of Medicare enrollment.

“No family should have to choose between life-saving medication and putting food on their table or a roof over their heads,” Manchin said in a statement. “This agreement represents the first-ever direct negotiations between Medicare and pharmaceutical manufacturers over a set of medicines.”

The Associated Press reported that, following months of negotiations, list prices for these drugs will be reduced by hundreds to thousands of dollars for 30-day supplies. This includes medications such as blood thinners, diabetes drugs, and blood cancer treatments.

The price reductions, ranging from 38% to 79%, will take effect on January 1, 2026. The total amount of savings is not yet clear.

“I’m so proud of the significant impacts the Inflation Reduction Act is having on lowering health care costs for hardworking West Virginians and Americans,” Manchin added. “I will continue to work to ensure it is implemented effectively.”
