### WHO Response to the Health Crisis in Sudan

**Background**
Since April 2023, intense fighting in Sudan has led to widespread violence, leaving 11 million people in urgent need of health care. The ongoing conflict has severely impacted the delivery of health services and the overall health infrastructure.

**Current Challenges**
- **Health Facility Disruptions**: Over two-thirds of main hospitals in affected areas are out of service. The remaining facilities are at risk of closure due to shortages of medical staff, supplies, safe water, and electricity.
- **Attacks on Health Care**: Repeated attacks on health facilities, medical warehouses, and health workers are obstructing the delivery of care and preventing patients from accessing treatment.
- **Disrupted Disease Surveillance**: The disease surveillance system has been compromised, making it difficult to detect and confirm outbreaks of infectious diseases.
- **Displacement**: Millions have been displaced within Sudan and to neighboring countries including Chad, the Central African Republic, Egypt, Ethiopia, and South Sudan.

**WHO Actions**
- **Coordination of Health Response**: Working intensively with health partners to coordinate the overall health response.
- **Disease Surveillance Reinforcement**: Strengthening disease surveillance systems to address and monitor infectious disease outbreaks.
- **Medical Supplies Distribution**: Distributing lifesaving medical supplies to affected populations despite challenges in access and insecurity.
- **Support to Host Countries**: Collaborating with health authorities in neighboring host countries to provide care to displaced individuals.

WHO's efforts aim to address the urgent health needs of affected populations, support the health infrastructure, and ensure that displaced individuals receive necessary health services.
